Former Formula 1 team owner and broadcaster Eddie Jordan passed away aged 76. He disclosed his prostate cancer diagnosis in December, 2024, stating it was an “aggressive” form.
Eddie Jordan ran his own formula 1 team between 1991 and 2005.
He’s also known as the man who gave Michael Schumacher his break in F1, and the rest was history. Schumacher went on to win seven world championships, becoming the best formula driver the world has ever seen.

Jordan’s family shared the news of his passing. “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of March 20, 2025, at the age of 76, after battling with an aggressive form of prostate cancer for the past 12 months.
“EJ brought an abundance of charisma, energy and Irish charm everywhere he went. We all have a huge hole missing without his presence. He will be missed by so many people, but he leaves us with tonnes of great memories to keep us smiling through our sorrow.”

In February, just a month before his passing, Jordan offered an update regarding his health, saying he was “not himself” because of the treatments he had been receiving for the cancer he battled.
His passing has shaken the world of Formula 1, because many considered him an irreplaceable part of it for years.

“Eddie Jordan was a legend of Formula One. He made an invaluable contribution to global motor sport throughout his life,” F1’s governing body, the FIA, said in a statement.
“All of us at the FIA would like to send our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this very difficult time. Eddie will always be remembered as a great sportsman and passionate ambassador for Formula One on and off the track.”
Williams F1 star Carlos Sainz wrote, “Extremely sad to learn that Eddie has passed away. A true icon and loved character of our sport. Passionate, loyal and truly one of a kind. He will be dearly missed. R.I.P.”
